The STEP Equation (Part 2)

Have you read Part 1 yet? P.S. The sequel wouldn't make sense otherwise.

This is where we left things off:

The million dollar question(s).

Did STEP 2018 leave us wanting for more?

Was STEP 2018, the most experiential tech conference in the region yet?

Did diversity represent at STEP 2018?

Here are the answers.

Did STEP 2018 leave us wanting for more?

Yes. We can never have too much of a good thing, can we?

Was STEP 2018, the most experiential tech conference in the region yet?

Yes.

Did diversity represent at STEP 2018?

Yes. Yes. Yes.

The variety and diversity was symbolic in the line up speakers, attendees and participating startups. Our conversations were as different as they came.

From Aya Sadder of Intelak to athlete Manal Rostom of Surviving Hijab,

Hasan Haider of 500 Startups to Habib Hazzan of Ibtekar Fund,

and Michael Dermer of The Lonely Entrepreneur to Monty Munford himself.

We can’t wait to share the conversations with you.

VISA even gave 5 startups the opportunity to showcase in the run up to the Conference. For Free.

For us, as a platform for authentic voices in their truest form, we could not have asked for anything better.

A part of the Conference we wish we could have covered as extensively as others, were STEP Music and Partner Events that were held post p.m. The separate venues were within walking distance from AUD.

Too tired to walk? Board a Buseet!

STEP Music events were scheduled to start at 7:30 pm and the Partner events were scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. When we reached the venue, the first act was still warming up.

After an already long day, we decided to call it a day. Nevertheless, we did see enthusiastic folks arrive to get the evening started.

There were a few hiccups on Day 1. The Conference Agenda confused some of the attendees, when the timing for a Panel discussion or a workshop was changed without prior notice. On Day 2, this was taken care of. The Step App sent alerts to attendees notifying them of starting time of certain sessions.

It takes gumption and guts to organise an event of such scale and depth of discussion. The value derived from the 2 days shall outrun the memory of any minor glitches.

Without a shadow of doubt, the STEP Equation shall continue to evolve in line with the needs of the local ecosystem.

In the words of the man himself, Ray Dargham, Founder, STEP Group, ‘Adding the new sub-conferences is crucial to talk about real substance, to dig deep into various topics instead of talking about general topics and mixing it up.’

Thanks to Partners and patrons of the Event, supportive of the local ecosystem, STEP is not going anywhere.

Our thoughts on STEP 2019?

One word.

Yalla!
