STEP Conversations | Ihsan Jawad

There is no age for re-inventing yourself.

So says Ihsan Jawad, the founder of one of the most famous and impactful Middle East based startups - Zawya. Zawya was acquired by Thomson Reuters and has been integrated into their ecosystem. Mr. Ihsan has since moved on to Middle East Venture Partners (MEVP) as a Managing Partner, scoping out new technological advances as well as supporting, advising and mentoring technology startups in the region.

There are tremendous opportunities and potential in the region that needs to be harnessed well, he adds.

Ihsan is now a Partner at STV, an independent venture capital fund anchored by Saudi Telecom.

His key advice is to always reach out to others, build sustainable mutually beneficial networks and collaborate with like-minded individuals and entities to reach your goal.

"Leveraging the multiple incubators, funds and accelerators in the region is key to growing yourself as an entrepreneur - which is a journey on self discovery", he adds.

Initially aiming to be a physicist, graduating from Imperial College London, UK, his career later enabled him to use his aspects of analysis and scientific principles to kick start one of the most trusted news networks in the Arab world that became Zawya.

He closed the conversation with another golden nugget;

"Never be afraid to take opportunities and keep in touch with influential people around you".
