Those Three Words

Which ones exactly?

‘I’m Over You’

Accepting what or who you like, comes easily. Giving up is tough.

For some reason, quitting is never considered an option. To say ‘I quit’ isn’t a choice. Apparently, it’s giving up. There’s an inherent (and not-so-understated) sentiment of losing. “The world is coming to an end, folks!”

Changing our mind about something inconsequential, say breakfast? There’s nothing ground-breaking about it.

However, choices that actively shape our daily realities and our destinies in the long run, the mental picture of the skies collapsing flashes on our mind-screen.

And what doesn’t help the situation at all? Inspirational quotes.

They are a part of the problem.

‘Winners never quit. Quitters never win.’

‘When the going gets tough, the tough get going.’

It’s a never ending tale.

Indecision has killed dreams faster than anything or anybody else – more than once.

My old boss, (no reference to age), told me, if I were to try and find out everything about my future partner, chances are I’d be too late to make a decision. In that scenario, my decision would become totally irrelevant. Why? Because nobody waits around for forever, just so you can figure everything out. Information has value. Time ages that information; making it go from priceless to worthless.

Those reading this, if you are occupied doing something that is propelling you to ‘Career Super Stardom’, and you love (or atleast like) it, You are living the dream. But, did you know beforehand, this would be the perfect fit? Or did you figure that out on your own, slowly but surely?

The rest of us might be having others’ dream careers, which we do not love. Maybe we can’t even tolerate it. The only thing that keeps us going - the pay-check at month end. “Food on the table is way more important than chasing something made of fluff” said noone ever, right? ‘A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.’ Those quotes again.

So, here’s a question. ‘What is the worst feeling in the world?’ Ready? Go!

Can’t eat all you want? Traffic? Can’t sleep? (I’ve had that). A little closer to home – doing something everyday you can’t describe with happy words.

For me, its when I feel bile rising up and I bite my tongue, in spite of myself.

I can see the better opportunity, but my comfortable space has gotten just that. Too comfy. Clichéd quotes aside, it is the opposite of cathartic to think of making the change.

The ‘What if?’ (Two Words) What if you leap and make the change? ‘What if?’ What if you crash and break your bones and you’re done for? That it wasn’t gold? Or even metal for that matter.

It is terrifying. How do we say to our old self, ‘I’m over you’?

There is also the contrary.

What then, when we did make the leap of faith (I know, I know, those words again), and we weren’t successful in our attempt?

Stare at the company’s website day in day out and try to figure out, what went wrong.

Too often, a friend found me doing just that. It wasn’t embarrassing or even obvious to me, until it was pointed out. This isn’t a problem for a particular gender. It’s real. It affects everybody, no matter your gender identity. You digitally stalk the company, like it or not.

This dream job was slipping out and away from my hands. Why couldn’t I get over this? I was having trouble saying those three words.

And then I did.

A couple of weeks ago, I walked into my room and said to nobody in particular, those three important words.

‘I’m over you.’

Imaginary cold water poured over my head. It was the Ice-Bucket challenge, all over again. I was free and random inspiration hit!

'As we continue to explore the opportunities that lie ahead,

let’s not be bogged down by the past that has come to pass.'

Let’s quit the attitude, per the situation. If quitting seems right, do that. Quit! If a fibre in your being, implores you to trudge ahead, through the knee high mud pits, do it. It is fun (in the literal sense too!). We will understand eventually – how wrong or right our intuition is.

Quitting isn’t a bad word. It is simply a decision we take. The consequences decide the nature of that decision.

LiveWire has quit the conventional. The success of this venture shall determine the fate of the decision. Yes, there will be other things. And now this will be there as well.

In the coming weeks, LiveWire shall feature real people, who quit and went their way. So stay tuned.

There is one thing that you can’t and shouldn’t quit on. It should be a universal truth much like the ‘Sun rises from the East’.

Never. Quit. Life.

Humbly,

Volt @ LiveWire
