There are two ways to approach a Start Up event for us at LiveWire.
#LiveFromEvent : Report about the event.
OR
#LiveFromEvent Plus : Participate in the event.
At LiveWire, we want to go Option 2 as many times as possible. There lies the maximum value for our awesome LiveWire fam.
Especially, for those who’ve never been and are wondering what the gung-ho is about, you’ve come to a good place.
Long story short : Check email from Sheraa. Say yes. Go for it!
Total time taken to decide : Less than what it took to type this sentence.
Here’s the once upon a time version.
We attended the Sharjah Entrepreneurship Festival, #SharjahEF.
Words of Ms. Najla Al Midfaa, General Manager, Sheraa, in her opening address at the festival, ‘Go out and spread the word. Sharjah is open for business,’ really hit home. It was a no-brainer. Sheraa, would take the vision of the Ruler of Sharjah, H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, for entrepreneurship forward.
Upon receiving the email about the #StartupWeekend Sharjah Edition, we said *Yaasss*.
Now, instead of merely updating the Events section over at our website, we decided to deep-dive. What better way to find out, if LiveWire would stand the long-haul?
Simple speak – If you can survive 54 hours of trying to build a company from scratch, with a bunch of strangers, you just might have the grit to sustain and succeed.
A #StartupWeekend enthusiast described the #StartUpWeekend as
‘Entrepreneuring on Steroids.’
Here’s what we needed to do.
1. Log onto their website.
2. Pick ticket type – Regular (Individual), Student or Team. We picked 'Regular'.
3. Enter basic details as Name, email id and so on.
4. Pick participating as:
a.‘Idea Owner’ – Have an idea to pitch? Fill up the ‘Describe your idea’ box. There were hints too : State ‘Pain point, problem statement, solution.’
b.‘Skilled individual’ – Want to help build on an idea you hear at the competition with your awesome Creativity and or Tech skills?
Select the category and simply leave ‘Describe your Idea’ box empty.
5. Show up at the event.
Still not convinced about going for it?
Unfamiliarity of space troubling?
Much worse – got no idea?
Fear not!
Prior to the event, Sheraa, organised a workshop which was open to all interested in attending the event. Free of cost.
Here we met Naser. He is the Programs and Training Associate at Sheraa. Also, the person in charge of conducting the Workshop.
While, familiarising yourself with ‘the Arena’, is usually helpful, the workshop was the icing on the cake and the cherry on top.
Check out our Twitter thread to know why.
Fast forward to Competition Day 1.
Want to know more? Stay tuned for our next update! It will be up soon.
Humbly,
